“You can’t always get what you want.” “Where did all the people go?” The Stones have got what they want and what they need. And they’re still alive to enjoy it. Their enemies are, for the most part, dead. Or might as well be. Trying to ruin the great, iconic rock groups’ lives always seemed to backfire. Jealousy and greed never really succeed, though they may appear to for short periods of time. History repeats… and the big wheel keeps on turning. Don’t you think that Mick and Keith sit back, survey today’s world of music and say, “been there, done that!”? Thanks for this series, you ROCK!

The police and press abuse isn’t surprising, given the timeframe. But it makes the more recent Murdoch scandals even more ominous. The crazies selling fear over facts have put logic and reason in jeopardy and effective government at a standstill. No lessons learned.

Ah, those were the days. Back when customs officials checked your luggage for illicit drugs, not bomb components tucked away in shampoo bottles or tennis shoes. At the Denver airport, you could probably sail through security with more ganja than Bob Marley and his band ever consumed, but you’d still need to have your sneakers x-rayed.

Interesting stories, Bill. Looks like you will have a whole book before long. I saw a Stones bio on HBO that showed this bust and trial. Your behind the scenes info adds a lot! I’d love for you to research Nicky Hopkins. The Stones film did not mention him, though he did sometimes get caught on film. I think he should have been a member of the band. I met him and jammed with him once when he moved to Atlanta in the 70s, and he was super nice and still a great piano player. He didn’t live a whole lot longer though, and I doubt he had much when he died.
